Frequently Asked Questions
Depends on the size of your place, how far you're going, and what you need us to do. A local one-bedroom in the Triangle usually runs $400 to $800. Long-distance and international moves get a custom quote. Give us a call at (919) 682-2300 and we'll give you a straight number.
Four to six weeks is ideal. Summer (May through September) fills up fast, so the earlier the better. International moves need 8 to 12 weeks. That said, we've pulled off plenty of last-minute moves. Call us and we'll see what we can do.
Your crew, the truck, furniture padding and blankets, and basic liability coverage. That's standard on every move. Need packing, specialty crating, storage, or extra insurance? We'll add it to the quote so there are no surprises.
Yes. We hold USDOT #0233952, FMCSA #MC159007, and NCUC #C-2262. BBB Accredited with an A+ rating. We've carried full liability and cargo insurance on every move since 1976.
We do. Full packing, partial packing, or just the tricky stuff like dishes and electronics. We bring the materials and handle it all. We also unpack at your new place if you want to skip that part too.
Yes. We have secure, climate-controlled storage right at our Durham facility. Short-term or long-term. With our One Touch Handling system, your belongings stay in the same container from pickup through storage to final delivery. No extra loading and unloading.
We've been a licensed interstate carrier since 1982. We move people across all 48 contiguous states and give you an exact pickup and delivery date. Not a window. A date. We coordinate routing, scheduling, and tracking from start to finish.
We've been doing international moves since 1976. Ocean freight, air freight, six continents. We handle the customs paperwork, export crating, and door-to-door delivery so you don't have to figure it out yourself.
We can't transport hazardous materials. That means flammable liquids, propane tanks, ammunition, fireworks, and corrosive chemicals. We also skip perishable food, live plants on long-distance moves, and pets. If you're not sure about something specific, just ask.
Never required, always appreciated. Most folks tip $20 to $40 per crew member on a local move and $40 to $80 on a long-distance move. Cold drinks and snacks on moving day go a long way too. Our guys remember the houses with pizza.
Three ways: fill out the form on our Contact Us page, call us at (919) 682-2300, or email info@truckinmovers.com. We do in-home, virtual, and phone estimates depending on the size of your move.
Every move includes basic liability coverage at no extra charge. If something gets damaged, let us know within 9 months of delivery and we'll work with you to make it right. We also offer full-value protection if you want more coverage. Our career crews have been doing this for years, so damage claims are rare.
Yes. Pianos, grandfather clocks, antiques, fine art, pool tables, gun safes. Our crews have moved thousands of specialty items over 49 years. We use custom crating and padding, and with One Touch Handling, your piece gets loaded once and unloaded once.
Plans change. We get it. Cancel or reschedule with at least 48 hours' notice and there's no charge. Inside 48 hours, there may be a fee. Just let us know as soon as you can.
We need someone at both ends to sign paperwork, point the crew in the right direction, and approve charges. If you can't be there, you can designate someone with written authorization. We just need a decision-maker on site.
A local one- or two-bedroom usually takes 4 to 6 hours. Bigger homes can take a full day. Long-distance moves run 3 to 7 business days depending on the route. International moves take 4 to 12 weeks depending on destination and shipping method.
We move in rain, no problem. The crew wraps everything extra and puts down floor runners. If conditions get dangerous, like ice storms or severe weather, we'll reschedule at no charge. We're not going to risk your stuff or our people.
Yes. We handle employee relocations, office moves, and commercial logistics for companies of all sizes. We set up corporate accounts with centralized billing and a dedicated coordinator so your HR or facilities team has one person to call.
Home base is Durham, NC. We handle local moves across the Triangle: Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, and the surrounding area. For long-distance, we cover all 48 contiguous states with exact dates. We also move people internationally.
Declutter before we get there. Pack a bag with your essentials for the day. Label your boxes. Confirm parking and elevator access at both locations. If you booked our packing service, leave everything where it is and our crew will take it from there.
The North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) regulates household goods movers in the state. Any company moving your furniture within NC must have an NCUC license (a "C" number). This means they follow state-mandated insurance requirements, rate structures, and consumer protections. Truckin' Movers holds NCUC License #C-2262. If your mover can't show you a C number, they're not licensed.
Go to the NCUC website and search for their household goods carrier number. Every licensed mover has a "C" number. You can also check the USDOT number at the FMCSA website (safer.fmcsa.dot.gov). If a company can't provide both numbers, don't hire them. Ours are NCUC #C-2262 and USDOT #0233952.
If your origin and destination are both in North Carolina and more than 50 miles apart, the NCUC classifies it as an NC Long Distance (NCLD) move. NCLD moves are priced by weight and distance, not by the hour. The NCUC sets maximum rates that licensed movers cannot exceed.
The NCUC publishes a tariff with maximum hourly rates for local moves and maximum weight/distance rates for NCLD moves. Licensed movers can charge less than the tariff but never more. This protects consumers from price gouging. Ask your mover for a written estimate and compare it to the NCUC tariff.
Three things: NCUC license (C number), USDOT number, and real Google reviews. Then ask for a written binding estimate, not a ballpark. Ask if the crew is their own employees or day laborers. Ask if they give exact dates or "windows." A legit mover will answer all of this without hesitating. If they dodge, move on.
