Storage in Durham, NC with One-Touch Handling
Truckin' Movers storage is billed monthly with no long-term contracts. Climate-controlled warehouse containers start at our Durham facility at 1031 Harvest Rd. We use a containerized system: your belongings are loaded into a container once at your home and unloaded once at your destination, even if they sit in storage for months.
Most moving company storage works differently: they unload your truck into a warehouse, stack your boxes on shelves, and reload everything onto a different truck when you're ready. That's two extra handling events and two extra chances for damage. Our system eliminates that. One load. One unload. Nothing in between.
How Our Storage Works, Step by Step
Step 1: Loading. Our crew packs and loads your belongings into containers at your home, the same way they would for any move. Everything is pad-wrapped and secured inside the container.
Step 2: Transport to warehouse. The containers go to our Durham facility at 1031 Harvest Rd. Indoor warehouse containers are climate-controlled. Your items stay at a consistent temperature and humidity.
Step 3: Storage. Your container sits untouched in our warehouse for as long as you need. A week, a month, a year. Billing is monthly with the first and last months prorated.
Step 4: Delivery. When your new place is ready, call us and we'll schedule an exact delivery date. Your container comes out of the warehouse and goes straight to your door. Same container, same contents, no surprises.
Storage Options
Climate-controlled warehouse containers. Medium (5x7x7.5 feet) and large (5x8x8.5 feet). Best for furniture, electronics, artwork, and anything sensitive to heat or humidity. These stay inside our warehouse.
Outdoor storage units. Available on our Durham property. Good for items that don't need climate control, like seasonal equipment, extra furniture, or boxes of non-sensitive goods.
Semi-trailer storage. For large loads that need more space. Trailers range from 24 to 53 feet. We also offer covered parking for vehicles and trailers.
Your own location. If you've rented a mini-storage unit or have a garage or barn, we'll load and deliver to wherever you want. We're flexible.
Storage in Transit vs. Permanent Storage
Storage in transit (SIT) is when storage is part of your move. You're relocating but your new place isn't ready yet. The storage period is typically six months or less, and delivery after storage is part of your original move contract.
Permanent storage is when our warehouse is the destination. You need a place to keep things and you're not sure when you'll need them. There's no move contract tied to it. Just storage for as long as you need.
Both options use the same containerized system, which means your stuff gets the same one-touch treatment either way.
Why Our Storage System Matters
Most movers treat storage as an afterthought. We built our entire operation around it. Doug Carlton designed the containerized system in the early days of Truckin' Movers because he saw how much damage happened when items got handled multiple times. Fifty years later, we still run it the same way, because it works.
Your belongings are cataloged, protected, and left alone until you need them. Call (919) 682-2300 to set up storage or get a quote.
