Truckin' Movers has been hauling households across state lines since October 1976. We've operated under ICC authority (MC-159007) since 1982, and that same authority, now held with the FMCSA, covers all 48 contiguous states.

Exact Dates, Not Windows

Most national carriers give you a "delivery window" of 7 to 14 days. Somewhere in that range, your truck will show up. Maybe. You're sitting in an empty house with no furniture, waiting for a phone call.

We give you a specific pickup date and a specific delivery date. Both are locked in before you sign. We've done it this way since 1976. It works because we run our own trucks and our own crews. We don't subcontract your load to a broker, and we don't consolidate your shipment with three other families' belongings. Your stuff goes on our truck, travels directly, and arrives on the day we said it would.

Popular Corridors from North Carolina

We run trucks to all 48 contiguous states, but some routes are more common than others. Here are the corridors we travel most, with approximate distances and timelines from Durham:

North Carolina to Florida (650 to 760 miles). This is our busiest interstate corridor. Retirees heading south, young professionals chasing jobs in Miami or Tampa, snowbirds splitting time between states. I-95 South through Fayetteville, Savannah, and Jacksonville. North Carolina to New York (500 miles). I-95 North through Richmond and Philadelphia into the metro area. NYC deliveries involve tight scheduling: freight elevator reservations, street parking permits, building COIs. We handle all of it. Delivery in 2 to 3 days. Durham to New York route details.

North Carolina to Texas (1,200 to 1,500 miles). Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio. I-40 West through Tennessee and Arkansas, or I-85 South to I-20 West through Atlanta. Delivery in 4 to 5 days depending on the metro.

North Carolina to Colorado (1,700 miles). I-40 West to I-25 North into the Denver metro. Mountain deliveries in Boulder, Fort Collins, and Colorado Springs require planning for altitude and narrow roads. Delivery in 4 to 5 days. Durham to Denver route details.

What Drives Interstate Pricing

Interstate moves are priced by weight and distance, not by the hour. The four biggest factors:

Weight.This is the single biggest cost driver. A 1-bedroom apartment might weigh 3,000 to 4,000 pounds. A 4-bedroom house can hit 14,000+. Every piece of furniture, every box, every appliance adds up. Getting rid of what you don't need before the move saves real money.

Distance.A 500-mile move to New York costs less per mile than a 200-mile in-state haul, but the total is still higher. A 2,700-mile move to California is at the top of the range. The per-mile rate drops as the distance increases, so the math isn't linear.

Access. Walk-up apartments, long carries from the front door to the truck, narrow staircases, and freight elevator scheduling all add time to loading and delivery. A ranch house with a flat driveway loads faster than a fourth-floor walkup in Brooklyn.

Timing.Summer months (May through August) and end-of-month dates are the busiest and most expensive. Move mid-month in January, and you'll save 10 to 20% on the same job. We move Monday through Friday, so there's no weekend premium either.

One-Touch Containerized Handling

Most big van lines load your stuff at your house, drive it to a warehouse, unload it, sort it, reload it onto a different truck, drive it to another warehouse near your destination, and then put it on a third truck for final delivery. That's three or four handlings, multiple warehouses, and a lot of risk.

We load your belongings into a container at your old home. That container goes onto our truck, drives directly to your new address, and gets unloaded there. One touch on each end. No warehouse sorting, no truck changes, no strangers repacking your boxes halfway across the country.

Every time your stuff changes hands, something can get damaged or go missing. Our containerized system eliminates those handoffs. It's the same approach we've used since the early 1980s, and our damage rate is well below the industry average.

Storage in Transit

If your new home isn't ready when we pick up, your sealed container goes into our climate-controlled warehouse in Durham. It stays closed. Nobody opens, sorts, or repacks it. When you're ready, we schedule an exact delivery date, put the container on a truck, and bring it to your new address.

Storage in transit runs $75 to $300 per month depending on container size. Most families are in storage for 2 to 8 weeks. No long-term contract, and we prorate the first and last months. For details, visit our storage page.

Your Rights on an Interstate Move

Federal law gives you specific protections on any move that crosses a state line. Before your move, we're required to provide the FMCSA's "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move" booklet. It covers estimate types, claims procedures, and what the carrier is required to do. Read it here before you sign with any mover, including us.

We carry Released Value coverage (60 cents per pound per item) on every interstate move at no extra charge. Full Value Protection, which covers repair or replacement at current market value, is available for an additional fee.
