Durham to Asheville Moving Company Since 1976
Asheville is about 250 miles west of Durham on I-40. In a loaded moving truck, that's a solid 5-hour drive. The last stretch climbs through the Blue Ridge past Marion and Old Fort, where the grades get serious. We've been running this route since the late 1970s, and our drivers know exactly where to manage their speed and when to use the runaway truck ramps (not that we've ever needed one).
We move people from Durham to Asheville regularly. Families heading west for the mountains, retirees looking for cooler summers, remote workers who traded RTP cubicles for home offices in Montford. The reasons change, but the route doesn't. I-40 West, all the way.
What the Move Looks Like
We load your belongings into a container at your Durham home. Everything goes in once. The container gets sealed and put on our truck for the drive west. When we arrive in Asheville, we unload at your new place. If you need storage because your closing dates don't line up, the container stays sealed in our climate-controlled facility until you're ready. No double handling.
For a typical 3-bedroom house, we'll have a crew of 3 to 4 at your Durham home for loading. Packing services are available if you want us to handle that too. A full pack on a 3-bedroom usually takes our crew 4 to 6 hours the day before the move.
Asheville Neighborhoods We Know
West Asheville has been the hot spot for the last several years. Haywood Road is the main drag, and the side streets are tight. Street parking for a moving truck takes some planning, but we've done it enough to know the drill. Montford is full of beautiful old homes with narrow doorways and mature trees that crowd the driveways. South Asheville near Biltmore Park is newer construction with wider streets and easier truck access. The River Arts District is a mix of converted industrial buildings and new apartments along the French Broad River.
North Asheville near UNCA draws families who want good schools and proximity to downtown. The roads wind, and some of the driveways need a shuttle truck because a full-size rig won't make the turn. Our crews assess this on arrival and have the equipment to handle it.
The Mountain Difference
Moving to Asheville isn't the same as a flat-ground move across the Triangle. Elevation changes, winding roads, and seasonal weather all factor in. We plan for it. If you're moving in winter, we watch the mountain forecasts closely and won't send a loaded truck through an ice storm. We'll adjust your dates if needed and communicate clearly about any weather delays.
