CEO & Founder

Doug Carlton

Doug graduated from Duke in 1976 with a double major in economics and political science. He'd been moving furniture since high school, and he saw the problem clearly: a government-regulated monopoly that kept prices high and options low. That October, with $300 and a legal loophole, he co-founded Truckin' Movers. Customers drove rental trucks. His crews handled everything else. The ICC investigated him. The IRS audited him. Allied, Global, and Wheaton sued him. He won. In 1982, after a nine-month legal battle in Washington, DC, the ICC granted Truckin' Movers a license to operate in all 48 contiguous states and set its own rates. That case helped deregulate the entire moving industry. Doug still runs the company today and stays active in BNI, building relationships in the Durham business community the same way he always has: showing up.

Brad Cave

Brad started as a mover and worked his way up over 16 years. He's done every job in this company, so when he walks through your house for an estimate, he already knows what's going to be tricky. Interstate and international moves are where he's at his best. He knows the regulations, the paperwork, and the things that go sideways when nobody's paying attention. Outside of work, Brad's got a serious year-round garden going and plays community softball for local charities.

Sales

Jeff Phillips

Jeff's good at figuring out the tricky ones. Multi-stop moves, tight timelines, relocations that need a plan B. He gives people straight answers and they trust him for it. He's also a fixture in the Pittsboro business community, where he founded and runs the Wakeup Wednesday networking meeting. When he's not at the office, Jeff keeps a home garden and manages a small flock of chickens.

Finance Manager

Robin Shirey

Robin's been managing our books for over 25 years. She keeps billing clear and handles any post-move questions fast. If something looks off on your invoice, Robin's the one who'll sort it out. When she's not at the office, she's tending her organic garden, raising chickens, or, more recently, dog sledding in Alaska.

Office Manager

Jenn Nelson

Jenn runs the office. Schedules, crew coordination, making sure nothing falls through the cracks. If you call us, she's probably the first voice you hear. At home, she's got two rescue dogs named Max and Amber, a garden, and a hairdressing side gig. She brings the same energy to all of it.

Fleet & IT Manager

Tom Truesdale

Tom keeps our trucks on the road and our software running. He handles fleet maintenance, preventive schedules, and repairs, plus he manages the custom moving software we use to run operations. He's been doing both jobs for over four years. Outside of work, Tom's an avid free-diver, a photographer, and a self-described tech nerd who builds custom PCs and servers. He's also learning software development.
