UNC Chapel Hill Movers Since 1976
Chapel Hill is one of the most iconic college towns in America, and UNC's campus is at the center of it all. Truckin' Movers has been handling Tar Heel moves since 1976. We know that North Campus dorms near Franklin Street have almost no vehicle access, which means hand-carrying from the nearest loading zone. We know the South Campus high-rises need elevator scheduling. We know that trying to park a moving truck on Franklin Street during orientation week is a non-starter. We've learned all of this by doing it, year after year, for 49 years.
Our office is in Durham, about 15 minutes east. We're not a national franchise dispatching from somewhere else. We're the local moving company that's been serving the UNC community for nearly five decades.
Campus Moves Done Right
UNC's move-in process is structured and time-sensitive. Here's how we handle it:
- Dorm Moves: UNC assigns specific move-in dates and time windows for each residence hall. Parking for moving vehicles is coordinated through UNC Transportation. We know the layout, the loading zones, and the elevator schedules. We get students in on time.
- Off-Campus Moves: Franklin Street, Rosemary Street, Carrboro, and the apartment complexes along Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Parking is always the challenge. We schedule early, coordinate with property managers, and use the right size vehicle for each location.
- Faculty Relocations: UNC draws faculty from around the world. We handle long-distance and international moves for incoming professors, coordinating with UNC HR when relocation support is available. Home libraries, lab equipment, fragile instruments. We've done it all.
- Post-Graduation Moves: Every May and December, Tar Heels move on. We handle long-distance relocations to wherever the next chapter takes you.
Chapel Hill and Carrboro Neighborhoods
Franklin Street is the heart of Chapel Hill, and moving here means navigating a busy urban corridor with limited truck access. We plan for that. Rosemary Street runs parallel and has slightly better loading options. Carrboro, right next door, has its own character with the farmers market, Weaver Street, and a mix of older homes and newer apartments. Southern Village, about 10 minutes south, is where a lot of faculty families land. Meadowmont, east of campus, has a similar feel. We've been moving people through all of these neighborhoods for decades.
Why the UNC Community Trusts Truckin' Movers
Our crew members are career movers who average over ten years with us. They've carried bookshelves up four flights in a Rosemary Street walkup. They've fit a professor's entire home library into a containerized moving system. They've timed moves to avoid the worst of Franklin Street traffic. Moving is stressful, especially when you're starting a new semester or a new position. We take the edge off by knowing the area, showing up on time, and handling your stuff like it matters. Because it does.
