430 Miles Up I-95. Same-Day Possible.
Durham to Philadelphia is 430 miles on I-85 North to I-95 North. In a loaded truck governed at 55 mph, that's about 9 hours of driving. Through Richmond, past DC, through Baltimore, and into Philly. It's a straight shot up the East Coast corridor, and we run this route regularly. For early morning pickups, same-day delivery is possible. Otherwise, your stuff arrives the next day.
This is a bread-and-butter mid-Atlantic move. Close enough that the transit is quick, far enough that you want professionals handling the logistics at both ends.
Delivering into Philly
Philadelphia has its own personality for moving logistics, and most of it involves tight spaces. South Philly rowhouses line narrow one-way streets where parking a moving truck takes real planning. Front doors open directly onto the sidewalk. Stairways are steep and tight. The PPA doesn't mess around with parking enforcement, so we handle temporary permits when needed.
Center City is a different challenge. High-rises and condo buildings need loading dock reservations and certificates of insurance. Rittenhouse Square and the Art Museum area have a mix of older brownstones and newer buildings, each with their own access rules. We sort all of that out before the truck leaves Durham.
University City, around Penn and Drexel, is heavy on academic moves. Faculty relocations, grad student apartments, and older walk-up buildings with narrow hallways. The Main Line suburbs, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Wayne, are more traditional residential with driveway access and bigger homes. Those are straightforward loads.
What to Plan For
A Durham to Philadelphia move runs $3,000 to $7,500 for a 2-3 bedroom home. Volume matters, but so does access at your destination. A third-floor South Philly walkup with no elevator costs more in labor than a suburban house in Cherry Hill. We factor all of that into your quote.
Our one-touch containerized system works well on this route. Your belongings get loaded in Durham, sealed in a container, and unloaded in Philadelphia. No warehouse stop. No transfer truck. The same container, the same crew at each end.
Getting Started
Call (919) 682-2300 or use the calculator below. We'll do a walkthrough of your Durham home, in person or virtual, and give you a firm price with exact dates. The I-95 corridor is one of our most-traveled routes. We know it, and we know what's waiting at the Philly end.
We've been moving families since 1976. Over 20,000 of them. Our average crew member has been with us more than ten years. That matters when your couch needs to make it up a narrow South Philly stairwell without scratching the walls.
