Durham to Wilmington Moving Company Since 1976
Wilmington is about 160 miles southeast of Durham on I-40 East. In a loaded moving truck, that's around 3 hours. The drive takes you through Raleigh, then southeast across the coastal plain through Goldsboro and into New Hanover County. It's flat the whole way, no grades to worry about. We've been running this route since the late 1970s.
People move from Durham to Wilmington for the coast. Retirees, remote workers, families who want beach access without leaving North Carolina. It's one of the more popular long-distance routes we handle within the state, and the reasons people make the move haven't changed much in 49 years. The beach is still the beach.
What the Move Looks Like
We load your belongings into a container at your Durham home. Everything goes in once. The truck takes I-40 East to Wilmington, and we unload at your new place. For smaller loads, same-day delivery is common. A full 3 or 4-bedroom house with packing services typically takes two days. Packing day, then load-and-deliver day. You'll know your exact dates before anything starts.
If your closings don't line up, your container goes into our climate-controlled storage in Durham County. It stays sealed and dry until you're ready. When your Wilmington home closes, we deliver and unload. One touch from start to finish.
Wilmington Neighborhoods We Know
Historic downtown Wilmington has some of the most beautiful homes in the state. They also have narrow streets, limited parking, and the kinds of doorways that require creative furniture work. Our crews have navigated downtown moves enough to know what fits and what needs to come apart first.
Wrightsville Beach is an island connected by a drawbridge. Street parking is tight, and some houses have limited driveway access. We plan for the bridge timing and the narrow roads. Carolina Beach and Kure Beach are similar, with a more laid-back feel and slightly easier access. Leland is on the west side of the Cape Fear River, newer construction with wider streets and standard truck access. Porter's Neck, north of downtown, has larger homes and quieter streets.
Moving to the Coast
Coastal moves have a few extra considerations. Humidity is higher in Wilmington, and that matters if you're storing items or moving sensitive electronics and wood furniture. Our containers are sealed during transit, and our Durham storage facility is climate-controlled. We can advise on protecting specific items for the coastal environment.
Summer moves to Wilmington mean tourist traffic, especially crossing to the beach communities. We factor that into our scheduling. If you're moving in July, we'll plan the delivery timing around peak bridge traffic.
