We call it "People, Planet, Profit." It's the philosophy behind how we run Truckin' Movers, straight from our newsletter to you. Taking care of our community, taking care of the environment, and running a sustainable business aren't three separate things. They're all connected. Here's what that actually looks like at our headquarters on Harvest Road in Durham.

The Bee Colony

An entire bee colony moved into the wall of our warehouse at Harvest Road. We didn't call an exterminator. We're happy to share the space.

That might sound like a small thing, but it tells you something about how we think. Pollinators are critical to the ecosystem, and if they want to set up shop in our wall, they're welcome. The crew gets a kick out of it. The bees do their thing. We do ours.

The Organic Garden

Our crew grows vegetables in an organic garden at headquarters. Fresh tomatoes, peppers, herbs, whatever's in season. It started as a side project and turned into a real thing. Now the guys grab fresh produce for lunch breaks instead of hitting a drive-through.

It's good food, it's good for the team, and it's one more way our career employees feel invested in this place. When your average crew member has been with you for over a decade, you want them to enjoy coming to work. The garden helps with that.

The Solar Array

We've got solar panels on the warehouse. They do more than offset the building's electricity. They also charge the all-electric cars our estimators drive to your home for free estimates.

Think about that for a second. When we send someone to walk through your house and give you a quote, they're driving a car powered by the sun hitting our roof. No gas, no emissions, no fuel cost passed on to you. It's a small thing in the grand scheme, but it's real, and it adds up across hundreds of estimates a year.

People, Planet, Profit

That's the framework. Three words from our newsletter, and we mean all three.

People. We take care of our crew. The average tenure of our movers is over ten years. That's not a marketing number. That's real. We pay well, we treat people right, and we keep them. When you hire Truckin' Movers, the people carrying your grandmother's china have done this thousands of times.

Planet. The bees. The garden. The solar panels. The electric estimator cars. These aren't corporate initiatives dreamed up in a boardroom. They grew organically from a company that's been in the same Durham community since 1976. We live here. We want it to be a good place to live.

Profit. We're a business, and we're not shy about that. But sustainable practices actually save money. Solar cuts our electric bill. Electric cars cut fuel costs. Happy employees who stick around for a decade save us the massive expense of constant hiring and training. Doing right by people and the planet isn't at odds with running a good business. It IS running a good business.

Why This Matters for Your Move

You might be thinking: "I just need someone to move my couch." Fair enough. But the way a company runs its operation tells you something about how they'll handle your stuff.

A company that cares enough to keep bees in its wall, grow vegetables for its crew, and power its fleet with sunshine is a company that pays attention to details. That same attention shows up on moving day. Our crews use floor runners to protect your hardwood. They wrap furniture in blankets. They handle your belongings with care because that's how they handle everything.

We've been doing this since 1976. Over 20,000 families. We're not going anywhere, and we want the community we serve to thrive. People, Planet, Profit. All three, every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your green practices more expensive for customers?

No. The solar panels and electric cars actually reduce our operating costs, which keeps your price competitive. These aren't premium add-ons. They're just how we run the business.

Do you use recycled packing materials?

Yes. We source recycled-content boxes and use them across our moves. We also run a box buy-back program. After your move, we'll take back gently used boxes for reuse on future jobs. Less waste, and you get a credit back.

Can I donate furniture during my move?

Absolutely. We partner with local organizations including the Durham Rescue Mission and Habitat for Humanity ReStore. If you're downsizing, we can deliver donated items directly to these organizations on moving day. They provide tax-deductible receipts for your records.

What's the story with the bees?

A bee colony moved into the wall of our Harvest Road warehouse. We left them alone. They're good neighbors, and pollinators are important. The crew watches them come and go. It's become a point of pride around the office.

How long have you been doing the solar and electric car program?

The solar array powers our warehouse building and charges the all-electric cars our estimators drive. It's part of our broader "People, Planet, Profit" approach that we share with customers and the community through our regular newsletter. If you'd like to stay in the loop, ask about our mailing list when you book your move.
