Moving Near Duke University
Properties near Duke Forest often have winding driveways with limited turnaround for a full-size truck. We learned that early on. Now we scout every property in advance, check the driveway length and width, and bring the right vehicle. Sometimes that means a smaller truck for the driveway and a shuttle approach. It takes a bit more planning, but it keeps us from tearing up your yard or getting stuck at the end of a cul-de-sac.
The Duke area is a mix of everything. Modest ranch houses, larger homes on wooded lots, apartment complexes near campus, and faculty housing. As Durham's local movers, we handle all of it. Move day looks different depending on where you are. A residential move from a ranch house off Erwin Road is straightforward. A larger home backing up to the forest with a gravel driveway and low-hanging branches takes more thought and the right crew.
August is the busiest time near campus. Duke move-in season overlaps with faculty relocations, and the streets around West Campus get congested. If you're moving to the Duke area in late summer, book 4 to 6 weeks in advance. We recommend mid-week moves to avoid the worst of the traffic.
