International Movers to South America Since 1976

We've been moving families overseas since 1976, and South America is a regular route for us. Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador. From your home in North Carolina to your new address in South America, we handle the full job. Packing, crating, customs documentation, ocean freight, and delivery at the destination.

How an International Move to South America Works

Every move starts with a survey. We'll walk through your home (in person or by video) and inventory everything you plan to ship. That survey drives your quote. Once you book, here's the process:

  • Packing and Crating: Our crew packs your household using international-grade materials. Custom wood crates for fragile and high-value items. South American customs agents inspect shipments closely, so proper packing and labeling matter more here than on some other routes.
  • Customs Documentation: We prepare your detailed inventory, bill of lading, and all U.S. export paperwork. South American import rules vary by country, and Brazil's are particularly strict. We coordinate with destination requirements before your shipment leaves port.
  • Ocean Freight: Your container ships from a U.S. East Coast port. Transit runs 2 to 5 weeks depending on the destination. Northern South America is a short run. Southern ports like Buenos Aires take longer. We track the container at every stage.
  • Destination Delivery: Our partner agent handles customs clearance at the South American port and delivers to your new home. They'll unpack on request and remove all packing materials. The customs process can take a few extra days in some countries, particularly Brazil.

What You Handle, What We Handle

You handle your visa, flights, and personal documents. We handle everything that goes in the container. Packing, loading, export paperwork, ocean shipping, customs clearance, and delivery. If you need storage in the U.S. before departure, we've got climate-controlled options in Durham County. We've been coordinating moves across six continents for nearly 50 years.

Timelines and Planning

Plan for 6 to 10 weeks from booking to delivery for most South American destinations. Colombia and northern ports are faster. Brazil, Argentina, and Chile take longer, partly because of extended customs processing. Start the process at least 6 weeks before your travel date. Packing at your home takes 1 to 3 days depending on the size of the household.

Why Choose Truckin' Movers for South America?

Anything, Anywhere

Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador. We move households to South America and back again. Packing, crating, customs documentation, ocean freight, and door-to-door delivery. You name the city and we'll get you there.

Career Employees

Our average crew member has been with us over ten years. South American customs can be strict, especially Brazil. Our people know how to pack and document a shipment that clears without delays. That knowledge comes from decades of doing it.

Exact Moving Dates

We give you a specific pickup date at your home. Ocean transit to South America runs 2 to 5 weeks from the East Coast depending on destination. Northern ports like Cartagena are fast. Buenos Aires and Santiago take longer. We track every shipment.

One Touch Handling

Your belongings go into a container at your home and stay in that container through port, ocean transit, customs, and final delivery. One load, one unload. Less handling means less risk, and that matters on a move that covers thousands of miles.

South America Moving FAQ

A full household move to South America typically runs $5,000 to $15,000 depending on volume and destination. Brazil tends to cost more due to strict customs requirements. We do a detailed survey and give you a firm written quote. We've been pricing these moves since 1976.
Ocean freight from the East Coast to South American ports runs 2 to 5 weeks. Colombia and Venezuela are on the faster end. Brazil, Argentina, and Chile take longer. Add a few days for customs clearance at the destination port. We'll give you a realistic timeline.
Restricted items vary by country. Brazil is one of the strictest. Used electronics and appliances can trigger high duties or get denied entry. Argentina restricts certain household items. We'll review your inventory against your destination's rules before packing day.
Most South American countries allow used household goods in duty-free if you're establishing residency. Brazil requires items to have been owned for at least 3 to 6 months. You'll need your visa, passport, and detailed inventory. We handle all the customs documentation.
Brazil has some of the strictest import rules in the world. Customs clearance takes longer, duties on certain items are high, and the paperwork is extensive. We've navigated it many times. We coordinate with our Brazilian partner agent to avoid surprises at the port.
We offer full-replacement-value transit insurance from packing through delivery. Basic carrier liability is included, but for an ocean move to South America, full coverage is the smart choice. It protects against loss, damage, and port delays.
