490 Miles Up I-95 to the City
Raleigh to New York is 490 miles, straight up I-95 through Richmond, past DC, through Baltimore, and up the Jersey Turnpike into the city. In a loaded truck, that's 10 to 12 hours, depending on how bad traffic is between DC and the George Washington Bridge. We load in Raleigh one day and deliver in New York the next.
We've been making this trip since 1982. The route is simple. The delivery in New York is where the complexity lives, and that's where our experience matters most.
Picking Up in Raleigh
We're based in Durham, 30 minutes from Raleigh, so your crew is close. They show up at your Raleigh address at the agreed time. If you're in an apartment in Glenwood South, a house in Cary, or a townhome in Brier Creek, we've loaded from all of those. The crew wraps and pads everything for a 490-mile trip. Tight strapping, proper weight distribution, full protection for a day-plus on the interstate.
Your belongings go into the truck once and don't come off until New York. No warehouse stops along the way. No transfers in New Jersey.
New York Delivery
This is where the move gets real. Manhattan buildings require loading dock reservations, service elevator bookings, and COI filings, sometimes weeks in advance. Street moves in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx need NYC DOT no-parking permits. Brownstone walk-ups in Park Slope or Cobble Hill mean carrying every piece of furniture up narrow staircases. High-rises in Midtown might limit you to a specific delivery window.
We've delivered to walkups in Astoria, doorman buildings on the Upper East Side, lofts in DUMBO, and row houses in Jersey City. Every building has its own rules, and we learn them before we show up.
What It Costs
Raleigh to New York runs $3,500 to $8,000 for a 2-3 bedroom. The New York delivery logistics add to the cost compared to other routes of the same distance. We give you a firm price and exact dates. If your New York place isn't ready, your container sits at our Durham warehouse. Same stuff, same container, no repacking. Call (919) 682-2300 or try the calculator below.
Moving from New York to Raleigh?
We see it all the time. People leave New York for the Triangle because the cost of living is dramatically lower, the weather is warmer, and you can actually afford a house with a yard. Raleigh's tech scene is growing fast with Apple, Google, and Epic Games all in the area. The food scene is solid, the schools are strong, and you're three hours from the mountains and two hours from the beach.
Our crew picks up in any NYC borough or the surrounding suburbs. We navigate the permits, the parking, and the building logistics on the New York end. Then we deliver to your new Raleigh neighborhood, whether that's Five Points, North Hills, Midtown, or out in Cary or Apex. Since we're based in Durham, the Raleigh delivery is our home turf.
